Viewed from the north, this 40ft high square Towered Keep was possibly heightened or rebuilt
by Henry II some time after the 1173-4 revolt. The Keep was unusual due to the fact that it
had no forebuilding to its first floor entrance which is out of view, on the south east side.
Note, most of its facing stonework has been stripped off, probably used for building materials
leaving the tower to deteriorate.
