Glamorgan - Wales

Sir Payn de Turberville began builting a simple motte and bailey castle which soon was

replaced by a stone three storied tower keep.

In the 14th century it underwent considerable improvements and by the 15th century, when it was owned by Gamage family, the castle again was remodelled to improve the quality of comfort and defence.

In the 16th century, when the owners, the Sidney family, had moved their residence out of the castle, it  gradually fell into a ruin.
