Asby de la Zouch

Leicestershire

During the 11th century, Ashby manor belonged to the Norman baron, Hugh de Granmesnel.

A century later under the new ownership of the Zouch family, who came from Brittany, a stone wall and solar were built.

In the 15th century, when King Edward IV granted the property which was no more than a fortified manor house to Lord Hastings, a chapel was added as well as the 80ft tall ‘Hastings Tower’  which we see today in ruins.

The castle was slighted during the Civil War by parliamentary troops.
